Setbacks>> Breaks >> Comebacks! Entrepreneurship is you.

By on Jun 25, 2012 in 30TH FEB, Challenges for Start-ups, Entrepreneurship

While I am scribbling words here, honestly I am trying to get out of a situation. A situation which is popularly termed – Hibernation.  Yes, first time I identified this in the entrepreneurial cycle. I have read about Entrepreneurs – getting back to a job world and then starting over again.  These days, I have been pondering on the same.  But thanks to my good friends – who still keep the faith in me alive which is alive in me silently in a corner.

Passion and Will-power

Entrepreneurship is lot about will-power. Yeah, you should be willing to take up all kinds of tantrums, amazing people, illogical delays, facilitation challenges and what not, oh yeah you should be ready for too much of work and no work phases, holidays – shall be postponed for a while (but smaller breaks are a must), difference in weekdays and weekends should be ignored for a while – you never know if an opportunity knocks on a Sunday. You need to keep your socks pulled up.  You should be willing to do so.

And yes, will-power shall be backed by the passion. By the way, are you working on your passion? If yes, then don’t worry about the external factors – Remember, not all plans work the way we want.  Idea is to have a plan B for the moment and to always keep the focus to make your plan A work. Like they say, If it is not how you wanted it to – it is not the end.

Many of these things are easier said than done. But the period of hibernation is a great time to live through the difficult times and to finally realize the importance of these tiny liners which work great – whenever they work. I mean they will work but we need to be patient.

DO NOT LOOK for Hand-holding always

Yes, hand-holding is good but even in entrepreneurship; it is more like when you first got to school. You love the attention at home; even love the fact that your parents are busy planning the minute details from your school lunch box to covering your notebooks. But then, they can hand-hold till the classroom and in the class you are yourself. You need to perform and excel. There you cannot depend on anyone.

Similarly, once you venture out and take something as challenging as entrepreneurship, you should learn to be on yourself. I am not denying the fact – which you should not count on people for suggestions, support and feedbacks. I am only saying that you need to be interdependent. If you will believe in it – it will work. If you will perform – it will grow. If you will leave it – it will leave you.  Entrepreneurship is you.

Entrepreneurship is a RISK. Acknowledge that and SMILE.

One day I went to meet a friend. He has an art of communicating right messages at the right time or rather to compliment myself – I have the art of taking positive meanings out of our conversations. Who says all meaningful conversations are direct?

So, we end up discussing the challenges, the set-backs etc and he shared a story of his another friend, who went to take the oath of entrepreneurship – tasted initial success and then came a point when he had an amount of 3000 in his account. Huh! Stories are stories – I thought for a while, another while I thought my friend always does this – to give me reasons to attempt again and plus he is aware that I need a push almost all the time.

Post that no magic worked for me, despite a good start, a progressive second year – this year has been tough. I attempted – it dint clicked. I decided to put morality & ethics upfront – I was bound to suffer. Then ushered the so hyped economic slump and my clients postponed the projects. Again – I was little lost and I decided to hibernate. Gave myself a purpose for this break – and it doesn’t necessarily have to be business again.  Now you wonder – why all good organizations have got leave travel allowance, all humans need break from monotony even if it is your passion – you need to take a break and come back with all energy.
Remember, it’s not the break that counts but it is the Comeback that matters!
